4 ways to take photos of your cat

We all know that taking photos of your pets is tough, taking photos of cats is even tougher. We have been doing pet photography in Singapore for a while now and here are some tips for those who are interested in taking photos of their cats. You don’t need a studio to take nice photos (of course a studio would be ideal).

  1. Teasers, cats unlike dogs are not easily bribed. To get the attention of cats, you can use a teaser. These teasers are easily available at pet stores or you can even DIY one. The trick to make the cat to look at the camera is to make them look at the teaser and then place the teaser near the camera. You can see the behind the scene video of how this photo was taken.
  2. We use  studio seamless paper for our studio pet portraits. No studio? Use a black cloth or any cloth to use as a backdrop. Best cloth would be something that is matt or non-reflective. Remember to iron the cloth though.
  3. Sometimes when teasers don’t work, you can try cat treats. Those squeeze up treats works most of the time. Squeeze out some of the treats and lure the cat to the camera and then snap a photo of it.
  4. Use a cellophane ball or a ball that is made of plastic wrapping paper. These balls will create sounds that will make them curious and interested.

Let’s face it, we know hoomans don’t own cats. Cats own hoomans. They live like a thug in their own world ?. However, they can be great companions at times. Hope these few simple tricks will make you take better cat portraits. Check out more photos of cats as well as other pets portraits here.
